The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a test that measures a language ability of non-native speakers of English. It gives information about an individual’s language skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking. The standard for this test is set by the British Council and it assesses both academic and everyday communicative abilities across four general areas: listening, reading, writing and speaking. There are two versions of this test - candidates can choose to take either the Academic Module or General Training Module depending on their needs.

The Listening Test assesses the ability to understand spoken English in a broad range of everyday situations.
Reading Section
The IELTS Reading Task is based on two reading tasks: Academic Reading (69 minutes) and General Training Reading which takes about 40 minutes to complete. These tasks test your ability to read aloud and understand written language in different contexts. They also test your vocabulary, comprehension skills and the ability to draw conclusions based on reading passages or handouts. The Academic Reading Task assesses your ability to understand documents related to academic topics; whereas General Training Reading assesses your capability of understanding general informational text.
Writing Section
The IELTS Writing Task is based on an Academic Writing Task and a General Training Writing Task. The Academic Writing Task measures your ability to write coherently and accurately in an academic style while the General Training Writing Task measures your ability to express yourself in a clear, organised manner while responding directly to a question. Both tasks take 60 minutes each to complete.
This section will test your spelling skills, grammar and composition of sentences. In order for this test to be considered valid, you must write 150–180 words per task.
